Flying between the UK and Spain

Those of us who are renting long-term in Spain but still have family and friends in the UK, are likely to want to travel back and forth at least a few times a year and also welcome loved-ones over here to enjoy a free holiday.

Luckily, Spanish airports are now very well served by low-cost airlines from the UK and Ireland and due to the popularity of these routes and the level of competition, prices are low and flights are frequent.

The tourist areas of Spain and the main cities are probably the best served by flights. For the Costa del Sol, you can fly into Malaga or Gibraltar, depending on what part of the coast you’re located in. Costa Blanca is served by Alicante and Valencia airports and Costa Brava by both Barcelona and Girona airports.

To search for the best priced flights, we recommend the website www.Skyscanner.net as it compares all the major airlines for your chosen date and if you’re flexible when you travel, can even show the cheapest time to fly over a given month.

Many of us try to limit our travel time and costs by travelling light and just having hand baggage. To find out the latest rules for hand baggage around the world, Anglo Info has some good information. For specific limits, make sure you check with your airline.

For up to the minute information and advice of travelling to Malaga airport check out the website Malaga Airport Guide which is a great resource for those travelling to and from the UK.

I hope you find this information useful. If there’s anything we’ve missed, please feel free to ask us any questions about travel between the UK and Spain or about living in Spain in general and we’ll do our best to help.
