Making friends when moving to Spain

So you’ve decided that Spain is the place for you and you can’t wait to move to the sunshine and start enjoying the famed Spanish lifestyle. You’ve done your research, chosen a great area and sorted out a long-term rental Spain, but how will you go about making friends and meeting new people to really start your new life off in the right way?

If you’ve moved to an area popular with expats such as the Costa del Sol, you’re lucky as these places see a large amount of new people arriving each year, all keen to make friends just like you! There are some excellent organizations for networking, both socially and for business that you can join and numerous groups where you can enjoy your hobby and meet like-minded people.

If you have children of school age, this is a great way to meet parents in your local area and taking part in your community and attending meetings is another good way to introduce yourself to potential friends.

There’s a really interesting thread on Marbella Family Fun about making friends in Marbella which shows both the difficulties you can find moving to a new area but also how friendly people are here and how many groups are out there to join. If you’re willing to put yourself out there and join in with activities taking place in your local area very quickly you will develop a busy social life and develop a strong and supportive network which makes you feel totally at home.

Good luck and please let us know if you can recommend any groups that have helped you find friends in Spain.
